Women often keep changing their nail polishes every once in a while. How about one for your teeth? Dental Veneers act just like a polish that covers your teeth.

A dental veneer is a thin covering placed over the visible part of the natural teeth. They are designed to look flawless and suitable to the patient’s facial structure. In cosmetic dentistry, veneers are used as a solution to chipped, discolored or ungainly teeth. Dental veneers are commonly used by celebrities all over the world.

Dental veneers giving you a celebrity smile!

Dental VeneersDental veneers are a simple non-invasive method of changing the look, shape, and alignment of the dentition. Dental veneers are also known as porcelain veneers as they are commonly made of porcelain or composite resin material.

They are helpful to conceal discoloration of the teeth which cannot be bleached. Veneers can also be used to correct uneven teeth, crooked or a gap between the front teeth.

The best advantage of dental veneers is that they appear to be natural teeth. They don’t harm the gums. Porcelain veneers don’t stain the way natural teeth do. Veneers are said to have a life of 7 to 15 years.

What is the process?

The dentist trims a small amount of the outer covering (enamel) of the sides and front of your teeth for proper fitting of the veneers.

An impression or mold is taken of the teeth after they have been trimmed down. The dentist chooses an appropriate shade that will suit you best and then sends the impression to the lab.

The lab sends back a custom made set of veneers to the dentist in a few days. At the next appointment, the dentist places the veneers onto your teeth and bonds them to the teeth.

What should you think about before placing a dental veneer?

Before you can get fitted for veneers, any existing dental and gum disease should be treated. Once any decay or infection is removed and teeth cleaning is done, you can go ahead with your treatment.

If you have a habit of grinding your teeth, veneers can crack or just break. In that case, the dentist might prescribe a nightguard to prevent that from happening.

Dental Veneers are a commitment!

Once the process to get fitted for veneers has started, you can never fully go back. This is because the dentist has to remove a small amount of the tooth enamel for veneers. The enamel once cut cannot form again.

Veneers are a long term solution with consistent results. But they might need to be replaced if they become loose over time.

Getting dental veneers is a long-term commitment and quite heavy on the pocket. But it is a simple process, long-lasting and the aesthetic outcome is brilliant. Ask more about dental veneers in the comment box below!
